In January of 2018, Dr. English became the superintendent of Albertville City Schools. Since then, he has continued to serve the system and community in a capacity that encourages academic growth and opportunity for all students. He remains committed to fostering civic and community relationships. The need for cornerstones in innovation, creativity, and diversity continues to guide his educational philosophy.

    Background

Entering his 25th year in education, Dr. English has served as a teacher, coach, and administrator during his time as an educator. Ten years of his educational career were spent as a high school principal. From 2005-2011, Dr. English served as principal of Emanuel County Institute (ECI) with the Emanuel County School System in southeastern Georgia. During his time at ECI, enrollment improved by 25-percent, and the school consistently made AYP. Innovation included implementation of flex-scheduling, middle school concepts, and strategies to encourage student unity/school pride. The greatest transformation was the first integrated prom in school history in 2009.

In 2011, Dr. English returned to Alabama to become principal of Charles Henderson High School with the Troy City School System. During his tenure, the school’s graduation rate increased by 30-percent to 88-percent from 2012-15. Implementation of the Four Pillars of Success with an emphasis on school improvement strategies was instrumental in the academic transformation.

In 2015, Dr. English was named as superintendent of the Crenshaw County School District in south central Alabama. He assessed all cornerstones of the organization and implemented initiatives to transform and rebrand the system into a school system with a foundation set on innovation. To ensure that students had every opportunity to be college and career ready after graduation, the Crenshaw County Virtual School was created and launched in August of 2016. It served students in a fully-virtual, blended, and credit recovery/accelerated classroom setting. The curriculum allowed the rural school system to offer courses in AP/Pre-AP and multiple curriculum pathways. Pathways in STEM, foreign language, and career technical education broadened opportunities for all students. Over the three-year period from 2015-2018, ACT composite scores increased approximately two points.

Additionally, Dr. English has also served as an adjunct professor for educational leadership at Troy University Dothan.
