Dr. Bart Reeves tapped as Albertville’s next superintendent

ALBERTVILLE – The Albertville City Schools Board of Education unanimously approved Dr. Bart Reeves as the district’s new superintendent.

The board approved the hiring during a special called board meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 15. Dr. Reeves currently serves as the assistant director for the Alabama Association of School Boards.

As superintendent, Dr. Reeves primary focus will be on enhancing student performance. He aims to make the school experience the highlight of students’ days.

Dr. Reeves enters the position with more than 27 years of experience in education, with more than 18 years of that unfolding within the Guntersville City School System. He is a four-time graduate of the University of Alabama and has served as the superintendent for both Satsuma City Schools and Jackson County Schools.

He has also been a principal at Jasper High School and a principal, an assistant principal and a teacher for Guntersville City Schools.

Board President Bobby Stewart said public comments, social media posts, emails, and conversations with teachers and staff were considered as part of the selection process.

“I personally read every message we received. In the public interviews, we were able to utilize most of the questions submitted by the public,” he said. “We emailed and talked to the public and principals. We had a large body that provided input.”

Dr. Reeves and his wife, Amy Rollins Reeves, have three children - John Whit, 10, Hadley, 9, and Harper, 6. The Reeves met as teachers at Guntersville Middle School in 2000. Mrs. Reeves is a National Board Certified Teacher. She taught 12 years before making the decision to stay at home with their children. She graduated from the University of Alabama with both her bachelor and master’s degrees in mathematics.

“Dr. Reeves is no stranger to this area,” Stewart said. “He and his wife both have ties here. I know they are excited to get back to the area.”

Dr. Reeves will take over for Dr. Boyd English who retired in June after serving more than six years.

Attorney Taylor Brooks with Lanier Ford Law Firm helped the board facilitate the application process. The board received 13 applications before narrowing it down to the five finalists – Dr. Reeves, Dr. John Barge, Dr. Robert Sims, Dr. Brian Thomas, and Albertville Interim Superintendent Todd Watkins.
