Albertville Holds Monthly BOE Meeting

ALBERTVILLE – Albertville gifted teacher Dianna Adams was recognized at the Oct. 24 Albertville Board of Education meeting for being awarded the Gifted Specialist Award for the state.

Adams received the award at the recent 29th Annual Alabama Association for Gifted Children Soaring to New Heights in Gifted Education Conference.

AHS senior Ava Owens was also recognized at the meeting by Superintendent Dr. Bart Reeves for recently being named a National Merit Semifinalist. The National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. 

Ava is one of two students in Marshall County to be named a Semifinalist and one of 260 students from 70 high schools across the state. 

The board approved the following personnel items:

  • Beth Rigsby, retiring as executive director of instructional services at CO, effective Jan. 1, 2024.
  • Richard Sellers, Jr., retiring as a 12-month system-wide custodian, effective Dec. 31, 2023.
  • Jody Sellers, retiring as an ACS bus driver, effective Dec. 31, 2023.
  • Spring Charles, retiring as 12-month instructional coach at CO, effective Jan. 1, 2024.
  • Staci Jarrett, transferring from head softball coach at AMS to softball assistant II at AHS, replacing Heath Lovell, effective Oct. 25, 2023.
  • Stephanie Taylor, transferring from softball assistant III at AHS to softball assistant I at AHS, replacing Marisa Dunn, effective Oct. 25, 2023.
  • Erika Amos, transferring from softball assistant at AMS to softball assistant III at AHS, replacing Stephanie Taylor, effective Oct. 25, 2023.
  • Megan Law, head softball coach at AMS, replacing Stacie Jarrett, effective Oct. 25, 2023.
  • Kaitlyn Lawless, theatre (K-6) at AES (new position), effective Oct. 25, 2023.
  • Kaitlyn Lawless, theatre at AMS, effective Oct. 25, 2023.
  • Megan Law, to rescind the assigned softball assistant supplement paid by the softball boosters at AHS, effective Oct. 3, 2023.
  • Kelsey Dumas, early morning bridge program for ACS employees, sub for Pamela Ancelet, from 6:30-7 a.m. at AMS, to be paid $10 for 30 minutes, effective Oct. 25, 2023 - May 23, 2024.
  • Savannah Tibbett, to provide homebound services at a maximum of 3 hours per week at a rate of $20 per hour, effective Oct. 20, 2023 - May 24, 2024.
  • Donald Blakeney, independent contract to provide services as a clock operator for AMS basketball, to be paid $30 per game, not to exceed $2,000 from AMS basketball, effective Oct. 25, 2023 - Feb. 14, 2024.
  • Mary Bates, independent contract to provide individual and group instruction on trombone for AHS band, to be paid and not to exceed $3,000 from the AHS band, effective Oct. 18, 2023 - May 25, 2024.
  • Megan Hipp, independent contract to provide individual and group instruction on oboe for AHS band, to be paid and not to exceed $2,000 from the AHS band, effective Oct. 18, 2023 - May 25, 2024.
  • Joel Denton, independent contract to provide services as a speaker for AHS band students, to be paid and not to exceed $250 by the AHS band, effective Oct. 31, 2023.

The board also approved the following:

  • A revised salary schedule to include adding a K-6 theatre supplement and assigning a middle school theatre/drama supplement. 
  • The October fundraising requests. 
  • The 2023-2024 LEA Consolidated Plan. Each year, the federal and state governments require each local education agency (LEA) to development and implement a consolidated plan outlining the delivery of Title I and other funding services to students and schools.
